Method

Cooking the Rice

  1. 1

    Prepare the Rice

Rinse 2 cups of white rice under cold water until the water runs clear. In a pot, combine the rinsed rice with 4 cups of water and a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 18-20 minutes until the water is absorbed and the rice is tender.

Making the Hamburger Patties

  1. 2

    Form the Patties

In a mixing bowl, combine 1 pound of ground beef with 1 teaspoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of black pepper, and 1 tablespoon of soy sauce. Mix gently until just combined, then divide the mixture into two equal portions and shape into patties.

  2. 3

    Cook the Patties

Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the hamburger patties and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness. Remove from the skillet and keep warm.

Frying the Eggs

  1. 4

    Fry the Eggs

In the same skillet, reduce the heat to medium and crack 2 large eggs into the pan. Cook the eggs sunny-side up or to your preferred doneness, about 3-4 minutes. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper.

Assembling the Dish

  1. 5

    Plate the Loco Moco

On a large plate, place a mound of cooked white rice. Top with a hamburger patty, and then carefully place a fried egg on top of the patty. Drizzle with additional soy sauce if desired.

  2. 6

    Add Side Dishes

Serve with 2 cups of macaroni salad on the side and 1 cup of kimchee for a complete meal.
