Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, mix the warm water, sugar, and instant yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until foamy.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and salt.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In a saucepan, heat the milk and 1 tablespoon of butter until warm but not boiling. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly. Then, whisk in the egg.

  4. 4

    Form the Dough

Pour the yeast mixture and the milk mixture into the bowl with the flour. Stir until a dough forms.

  5. 5

    Knead the Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  6. 6

    First Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Shaping and Baking

  1. 7

    Shape Rolls

After the dough has risen, punch it down and turn it out onto a floured surface. Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball.

  2. 8

    Second Rise

Place the shaped rolls in a greased baking dish, cover, and let them rise for another 30 minutes.

  3. 9

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

  4. 10

    Bake Rolls

Bake the rolls in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.

  5. 11

    Brush with Butter

Melt the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter and brush it over the hot rolls. Sprinkle with sea salt.
