Dry Ingredients

Wet Ingredients

Optional (for frosting)

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, beat the eggs, and then add in the milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Then carefully stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth and well combined.

Baking

  1. 5

    Pour Batter and Bake

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  2. 6

    Cool the Cakes

Once baked, remove the cakes from the oven and allow them to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Optional Frosting Preparation

  1. 7

    Make the Frosting

In a mixing bowl, beat the unsalted butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar and cocoa powder, and mix until combined. Add heavy cream and vanilla extract, and beat until smooth and fluffy.

  2. 8

    Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cooled, spread a layer of frosting on top of one cake layer, place the second layer on top, and frost the top and sides of the cake.
