Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prep the Potatoes

Peel and grate the russet potatoes using a box grater or food processor. Place the grated potatoes in a bowl of cold water for about 10 minutes to remove excess starch. Drain and squeeze out the moisture.

  2. 2

    Mix the Seasonings

In a small bowl, combine salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika. Mix well and set aside.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Heat the Oil and Butter

In a large skillet or frying pan, heat the vegetable oil and butter over medium-high heat until the butter is melted and hot.

  2. 4

    Cook the Hash Browns

Add the grated and drained potatoes to the skillet in an even layer. Sprinkle the seasoning mixture evenly over the top. Cook for about 5-7 minutes until the bottom is golden brown and crispy. Flip the hash browns using a spatula and press down to flatten. Cook for an additional 5-7 minutes until the other side is also golden brown and crispy.

Serving

  1. 5

    Garnish and Serve

Once cooked, remove from heat and transfer the hash browns to a serving platter. Garnish with chopped chives and serve with a side of sour cream for dipping.
