Burger Patty

Bun and Toppings

Method

Prepare the Burger Patty

  1. 1

    Mix the beef

In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.

  2. 2

    Shape the patty

Form the beef mixture into a patty about 1 inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center to prevent it from puffing up while cooking.

Prepare the Tempura Onions

  1. 3

    Slice the onion

Peel and slice the onion into thin rings.

  2. 4

    Make the tempura batter

In a bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, salt, and cold water until smooth. The batter should be slightly thick but pourable.

  3. 5

    Heat the oil

In a deep pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  4. 6

    Coat and fry the onions

Dip the onion rings into the tempura batter, allowing excess batter to drip off. Carefully place them in the hot oil and fry until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Cook the Burger Patty

  1. 7

    Cook the patty

Heat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the burger patty for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium doneness, or until it reaches your desired level of doneness.

  2. 8

    Toast the bun

In the last minute of cooking, place the burger bun cut-side down on the grill or skillet to toast lightly.

Assemble the Burger

  1. 9

    Layer the ingredients

On the bottom half of the toasted bun, place the lettuce, followed by the cooked burger patty, a slice of tomato, and the tempura onion rings on top.

  2. 10

    Finish the burger

Cover with the top half of the bun. Serve immediately and enjoy your classic burger!
