Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Season the Steak

Generously season both sides of the ribeye steak with salt and black pepper. Let it sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes to allow the seasoning to penetrate the meat.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Cooking Surface

Heat a cast-iron skillet or grill over medium-high heat. Add olive oil to the skillet and allow it to heat until shimmering.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Sear the Steak

Once the skillet is hot, carefully place the ribeye steak in the pan. Sear for about 4-5 minutes on one side without moving it.

  2. 4

    Flip the Steak

Using tongs, flip the steak to the other side. If using garlic and rosemary, add them to the skillet at this point for added flavor.

  3. 5

    Cook to Preference

Continue cooking the steak for another 4-5 minutes for medium-rare, or adjust the time based on your desired doneness. Use a meat thermometer for accuracy: 130°F (54°C) for medium-rare, 140°F (60°C) for medium.

Resting and Serving

  1. 6

    Rest the Steak

Once cooked to your preference, remove the steak from the skillet and let it rest on a cutting board for at least 5 minutes. This helps the juices redistribute throughout the meat.

  2. 7

    Slice and Serve

Slice the ribeye against the grain and serve immediately. Enjoy your perfectly cooked ribeye steak!
