Slice the Onions
Peel the onions and slice them into 1/2 inch thick rings. Separate the rings and set them aside.

Prepare the Batter
In a large bowl, mix together the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and paprika. In another bowl, beat the egg and add the milk, mixing well. Gradually combine the wet ingredients with the dry ingredients until a smooth batter forms.

Heat the Oil
In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test the oil by dropping in a small amount of batter; if it sizzles and rises to the surface, it’s ready.

Drain and Serve
Once fried, remove the onion rings with a slotted spoon and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot as a side dish.
