Cooking Pasta

Boil the Pasta
In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add 2 cups of elbow macaroni and cook according to package instructions, usually about 7-8 minutes, until al dente.

Drain the Pasta
Once cooked, drain the pasta in a colander and set aside.
Making Cheese Sauce

Whisk in Flour
Add 1 tablespoon of all-purpose flour to the melted butter and whisk continuously for about 1 minute to form a roux.

Add Milk
Gradually whisk in 2 cups of milk, ensuring no lumps remain. Continue to whisk until the mixture thickens, about 3-5 minutes.

Combining and Serving

Combine Pasta and Sauce
Add the drained macaroni to the cheese sauce and stir until the pasta is evenly coated.

Prepare Topping (Optional)
If using, mix 0.5 cups of bread crumbs with 0.5 cups of grated Parmesan cheese.

Transfer the mac and cheese to a greased baking dish. Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture on top. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 20 minutes until golden and bubbly.
