Fried Okra

Method

Fried Okra

  1. 1

    Prepare the Okra

Wash and dry the fresh okra. Trim the ends and slice them into 1/2-inch pieces.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Breading

In a bowl, combine the cornmeal, all-purpose flour, Doc's Spice blend, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Wet Mixture

In another bowl, whisk together the eggs and buttermilk until smooth.

  4. 4

    Coat the Okra

Dip the sliced okra pieces into the wet mixture, allowing excess to drip off, then dredge them in the dry breading mixture until well coated.

  5. 5

    Heat the Oil

In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until hot (about 350°F or 175°C).

  6. 6

    Fry the Okra

Carefully add the coated okra pieces to the hot oil in batches. Fry until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per batch. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Doc's Remoulade

  1. 7

    Combine Ingredients

In a medium bowl, combine mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, hot sauce, paprika, garlic powder, lemon juice, salt, and black pepper.

  2. 8

    Mix Well

Stir the mixture until all ingredients are well combined and smooth. Adjust seasoning to taste.
