Pretzel

Method

Pretzel

  1. 1

    Prepare the Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, brown sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.

  2. 2

    Mix Ingredients

Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture. Stir until a dough forms.

  3. 3

    Knead the Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

  4. 4

    Shape the Pretzels

Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C). Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope and shape into a pretzel.

  5. 5

    Prepare Baking Soda Bath

In a large pot, bring 10 cups of water and baking soda to a boil. Carefully add each pretzel to the boiling water for about 30 seconds, then remove and place on a greased baking sheet.

  6. 6

    Bake the Pretzels

Brush each pretzel with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sea salt. Bake in preheated oven for about 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.

Beer Cheese

  1. 7

    Combine Ingredients

In a medium saucepan over low heat, combine the cream cheese and beer. Stir until the cream cheese is melted and smooth.

  2. 8

    Add Seasonings

Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, mustard, hot sauce, salt, and pepper. Continue to stir until the cheese is fully melted and the mixture is creamy.

  3. 9

    Serve

Remove from heat and transfer the beer cheese to a serving bowl. Serve warm alongside the freshly baked pretzels.
