Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Grease four ramekins with butter and dust them with cocoa powder.

  2. 2

    Melt the Butter

In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.

  3. 3

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.

  4. 4

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk the eggs and vanilla extract until well combined. Gradually add the melted butter and mix well.

  5. 5

    Combine Mixtures

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.

  6. 6

    Fill Ramekins

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared ramekins, filling them about 3/4 full.

Baking

  1. 7

    Bake the Cakes

Bake in the preheated oven for 12-14 minutes, or until the edges are firm but the center is soft.

  2. 8

    Cool Slightly

Remove from the oven and let the cakes sit for 1 minute.

  3. 9

    Invert and Serve

Carefully invert each ramekin onto a plate and gently tap to release the cake. Dust with powdered sugar and serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
