Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Roasting Whole Spices

In a dry skillet over medium heat, add the cumin seeds, black peppercorns, coriander seeds, dried red chilies, mustard seeds, and fenugreek seeds.

  2. 2

    Monitor and Stir

Stir the spices frequently to ensure they roast evenly and do not burn. Roast for about 5-7 minutes until fragrant.

  3. 3

    Cooling the Spices

Once roasted, remove the skillet from the heat and allow the spices to cool completely.

Blending and Storing

  1. 4

    Grinding the Spices

Transfer the cooled roasted spices to a spice grinder or blender. Add turmeric powder and salt to taste.

  2. 5

    Blend to a Powder

Blend until you achieve a fine powder consistency.

  3. 6

    Storing the Masala

Store the masala jeera powder in an airtight container in a cool, dry place. Use within 1-2 months for the best flavor.
