Fries

Method

Fries

  1. 1

    Preparing the Potatoes

Begin by washing the Russet potatoes thoroughly. Peel them if preferred, then cut them into even sticks, about 1/4 inch thick.

  2. 2

    Soaking the Potatoes

Place the cut fries in a bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps to remove excess starch, making them crispier.

  3. 3

    Drying the Potatoes

After soaking, drain the water and pat the fries dry using a clean kitchen towel or paper towels. Ensuring they are dry will help them crisp up when fried.

  4. 4

    Heating the Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to ensure accurate temperature for frying.

  5. 5

    Frying the Potatoes

Carefully add a batch of the dried fries to the hot oil. Fry them for about 5-7 minutes or until golden brown. Do not overcrowd the pot.

  6. 6

    Draining and Seasoning

Once they are cooked, remove the fries with a slotted spoon and let them drain on paper towels. While still hot, sprinkle with salt, black pepper, and paprika to taste.

Ketchup

  1. 7

    Mixing the Ketchup

In a small bowl, combine the tomato ketchup, vinegar, garlic powder, and sugar. Stir well until all ingredients are thoroughly mixed.

  2. 8

    Taste and Adjust

Taste the ketchup and adjust the seasoning if necessary. You can add more vinegar for tanginess or sugar for sweetness as per your preference.

  3. 9

    Serving

Serve the crispy fries hot alongside the homemade ketchup for dipping.
