Method

Steak Preparation

  1. 1

    Season the Steaks

Sprinkle the beef cube steaks with salt and black pepper on both sides. Let them sit at room temperature for about 15 minutes to absorb the seasoning.

  2. 2

    Dredge in Flour

Place the all-purpose flour in a shallow dish. Dredge each seasoned steak in flour, coating both sides evenly. Shake off any excess flour and set aside.

Cooking the Steak

  1. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until hot but not smoking.

  2. 4

    Fry the Steaks

Carefully place the coated steaks into the hot oil, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy. Remove the steaks and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Gravy Preparation

  1. 5

    Make the Gravy

In the same skillet with the remaining oil and drippings, reduce the heat to medium. Add 4 tablespoons of all-purpose flour to the skillet and whisk continuously for about 1-2 minutes until the mixture is golden brown.

  2. 6

    Add Milk

Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring constantly to avoid lumps. Add salt and black pepper to taste. Continue to cook until the gravy thickens, about 3-5 minutes.

Serving

  1. 7

    Plate the Dish

Serve the country-fried steak topped with the creamy gravy. Enjoy with your favorite sides such as mashed potatoes or green beans.
