Shrimp, French Fries, Coleslaw, and Sauce
Method
Preparation and Cooking
- 1
Prepare the Coleslaw
In a large bowl, combine shredded cabbage, mayonnaise, white vinegar, sugar, and salt. Mix well until the cabbage is fully coated. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow flavors to meld.
- 2
Prepare the Shrimp Breading
In a shallow bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. In another bowl, beat the egg and mix with buttermilk.
- 3
Coat the Shrimp
Dip each shrimp into the buttermilk mixture, allowing excess to drip off, then dredge in the flour mixture, ensuring they are fully coated.
- 4
Deep Fry the Shrimp
In a deep pan, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Carefully add the breaded shrimp in batches, frying until they are golden brown (about 3-4 minutes). Use a slotted spoon to remove shrimp and drain on paper towels.
- 5
Cook the French Fries
While frying the shrimp, according to package instructions, fry the frozen French fries in another pot of hot oil or bake them in the oven until crispy.
- 6
Assemble the Dish
Place the fried shrimp on a plate alongside a serving of French fries. Serve the coleslaw in a separate bowl. Place the shrimp in a hamburger bun if desired, and drizzle with tangy sauce to taste.
