Onion Rings

Method

Frying the Onion Rings

  1. 1

    Prepare the Onions

Peel the onions and carefully slice them into 1/4 inch thick rings. Separate the rings and set aside.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Batter

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Whisk together until well combined.

  3. 3

    Add Water

Gradually add the ice-cold water to the dry ingredients, mixing until you achieve a smooth batter. The batter should be thick enough to coat the onion rings well.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a deep skillet or fryer, heat vegetable oil to 375°F (190°C). Ensure there’s enough oil to fully submerge the onion rings.

  5. 5

    Coat the Onion Rings

Dip each onion ring into the batter, allowing any excess to drip off. Make sure the entire ring is coated with the batter.

  6. 6

    Fry the Rings

Carefully place the coated onion rings into the hot oil in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown.

  7. 7

    Drain and Serve

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried onion rings and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot.
