Chicken Preparation

Method

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Chicken

Begin by cleaning the whole chicken under cold running water. Pat dry with paper towels.

  2. 2

    Seasoning the Chicken

In a small bowl, mix salt, black pepper, garlic powder, paprika, and cayenne pepper. Rub this spice mixture generously over the chicken pieces, ensuring that every part of the chicken is coated.

  3. 3

    Marinating

Place the seasoned chicken pieces in a large bowl and pour the buttermilk over them. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight. This will help tenderize the chicken.

  4. 4

    Prepare the Coating

In a shallow dish, place the flour. You can add additional salt and pepper to the flour for extra seasoning if desired.

  5. 5

    Coat the Chicken

Remove the chicken from the buttermilk marinade, allowing the excess to drip off. Dredge each piece of chicken in the seasoned flour until fully coated, pressing down gently to ensure the flour sticks.

  6. 6

    Heat the Oil

In a large, heavy-bottom pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy.

  7. 7

    Fry the Chicken

Carefully add the coated chicken pieces to the hot oil, working in batches if necessary. Fry the chicken for about 12-15 minutes, turning occasionally until golden brown and cooked through. Ensure that the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C).

  8. 8

    Drain the Chicken

Once cooked, transfer the chicken pieces to a wire rack or paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

  9. 9

    Serve

Allow the chicken to rest for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your broasted whole chicken!
