Mashed Potatoes

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Potatoes

Peel the Yukon Gold potatoes and cut them into evenly-sized chunks (about 1-2 inches).

  2. 2

    Boil the Potatoes

Place the potato chunks in a large pot and cover them with cold water. Add a teaspoon of salt to the water. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce the heat to medium-low and let simmer until the potatoes are fork-tender, about 15-20 minutes.

  3. 3

    Drain and Steam

Once cooked, drain the potatoes in a colander. Let them sit for a couple of minutes to allow steam to escape, which helps remove excess moisture.

  4. 4

    Mash the Potatoes

Return the drained potatoes to the pot. Add the butter and heavy cream. Use a potato masher or a ricer to mash the potatoes until smooth and creamy.

  5. 5

    Season

Season the mashed potatoes with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder to taste. Mix well to combine.

  6. 6

    Serve

Transfer the mashed potatoes to a serving bowl and garnish with chopped chives if desired. Serve warm.
