Method
Preparation of Coffee
Brew Coffee
Brew 1 cup of strong coffee and let it cool. Optionally, stir in 2 tablespoons of coffee liqueur for added flavor.
Cream Mixture
Prepare the Cream
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 3 egg yolks and 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar until pale and creamy. Fold in 1 cup of mascarpone cheese until smooth.
Whip the Cream
In a separate bowl, whip 1 cup of heavy cream and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
Combine Mixtures
Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until well combined. Be careful not to deflate the whipped cream.
Assembling Tiramisu
Layer the Ladyfingers
Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the cooled coffee, ensuring they are soaked but not soggy. Arrange half of the ladyfingers in a single layer in the bottom of a 9x9 inch dish.
Add Cream Layer
Spread half of the mascarpone cream mixture over the layer of ladyfingers.
Repeat Layers
Repeat the process with another layer of dipped ladyfingers followed by the remaining cream mixture.
Finishing Touch
Chill and Serve
Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours (or overnight for best results). Before serving, dust the top with cocoa powder and sprinkle with dark chocolate shavings if desired.
