Method
Cake Preparation

Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.

Combine Wet Ingredients
In another bowl, mix together the vegetable oil, buttermilk, eggs, red food coloring, and vanilla extract until well combined.

Combine Wet and Dry Mixtures
Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.

Bake the Cakes
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Cool the Cakes
Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then turn them out onto wire racks to cool completely.

Prepare Cream Cheese Frosting
In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese and butter together until smooth and creamy. Gradually add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, mixing until fully combined and fluffy.

Make the Chocolate Sauce
In a small saucepan over low heat, combine the chocolate chips and heavy cream. Stir until the chocolate is melted and the mixture is smooth. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.

Assemble the Cake
Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of cream cheese frosting on top. Place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.

Add Chocolate Sauce
Drizzle the chocolate sauce over the top of the frosted cake, letting it drip down the sides.

Serve with Whipped Cream
Serve each slice with a dollop of whipped cream on the side.
