For the Dill Pickle Spears

Method

Preparation of Dill Pickle Spears

  1. 1

Begin by draining the dill pickles and patting them dry with paper towels. Cut each pickle in half lengthwise, then cut each half into spears, creating a total of 16 spears.

Batter Preparation

  1. 2

In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornmeal, baking powder, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to combine.

  2. 3

In another bowl, beat the eggs and mix in the milk until fully combined.

  3. 4

Pour the egg and milk mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. The batter should be thick but pourable.

Frying the Pickle Spears

  1. 5

In a deep skillet or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  2. 6

Dip each pickle spear into the batter, allowing the excess to drip off, and carefully place them into the hot oil.

  3. 7

Fry the spears in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.

  4. 8

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried pickle spears from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Serving

  1. 9

Serve the fried dill pickle spears warm with your choice of dipping sauce, such as ranch or spicy mayo.
