Preparing the Patties

Mix the Ground Beef
In a bowl, combine 1 pound of ground beef with 1 tsp of salt and 1 tsp of black pepper. Use your hands to mix until evenly combined.

Form the Patties
Divide the beef mixture into two equal portions and shape each portion into a patty, about 3/4 inch thick. Make a small indentation in the center of each patty to prevent puffing during cooking.

Add Cheese
After flipping, place 1 slice of your choice of cheese (American, Swiss, or Cheddar) on each patty. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the cheese is melted and the patties reach your desired doneness.
Assembling the Burgers

Toast the Buns
If desired, toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster until golden brown.

Build the Burgers
On the bottom half of each bun, place a lettuce leaf, followed by a slice of tomato, a patty with melted cheese, pickles, and a tablespoon of ketchup and mustard. Top with the other half of the bun.
