Prepare Coffee

Brew Coffee
Brew a cup of espresso or strong coffee and let it cool to room temperature.
Make the Custard

Whisk Egg Yolks and Sugar
In a medium bowl, whisk together 4 egg yolks and 1 cup of granulated sugar until the mixture turns pale and thick.

Combine with Mascarpone
Add 1 cup of mascarpone cheese to the egg yolk mixture and mix gently until smooth.

Whip Cream
In a separate bowl, whip 1 cup of heavy cream until soft peaks form.

Fold Cream into Mixture
Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until fully combined.

Add Vanilla
Stir in 1 tsp of vanilla extract.
Assemble the Tiramisu

Dip Ladyfingers
Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the cooled coffee, ensuring they are soaked but not soggy.

Layer Ingredients
In a 9x9 inch square dish, create a layer of dipped ladyfingers followed by a layer of the mascarpone mixture. Repeat until all ingredients are used, finishing with the mascarpone layer on top.

Chill
Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight for best results.
Serve

Dust with Cocoa
Before serving, dust the top of the tiramisu with 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder and sprinkle with chocolate shavings if desired.
