Potato Mixture

For Frying

Method

Prepare Potatoes

  1. 1

    Peel and Boil

Peel the russet potatoes and cut them into quarters. Place the potatoes in a large pot of salted water and bring to a boil. Cook until the potatoes are fork-tender, about 15-20 minutes.

  2. 2

    Drain and Cool

Once cooked, drain the potatoes and let them cool for about 10 minutes. After cooling, mash the potatoes until smooth.

Mix Ingredients

  1. 3

    Combine Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the mashed potatoes, all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix until well combined and a dough forms.

  2. 4

    Chill Mixture

Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate the mixture for at least 30 minutes to firm it up.

Form Tater Tots

  1. 5

    Shape Tater Tots

Once the mixture is chilled, scoop out small portions (about 1 tablespoon each) and roll them into small cylinders to form tater tots.

Fry Tater Tots

  1. 6

    Heat Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  2. 7

    Fry Tater Tots

Carefully drop the tater tots into the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry until golden brown and crispy, about 3-5 minutes.

  3. 8

    Drain and Serve

Using a slotted spoon, remove the tater tots from the oil and drain on paper towels. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
