Preparation
- 1
Chill the Glass
Begin by placing your Old Fashioned glass in the freezer or filling it with ice water to chill while you prepare the cocktail.
- 2
Mix the Ingredients
In a mixing glass, combine 2 oz of Sazerac Rye or Buffalo Trace Bourbon, 2 dashes of Angostura Bitters, and 1 tsp of Simple Syrup. Add ice cubes (about 1 cup) to the mixing glass.
- 3
Stir the Mixture
Stir the mixture gently with a bar spoon for about 30 seconds to chill and dilute the drink slightly.
- 4
Prepare the Glass
Remove the Old Fashioned glass from the freezer or discard the ice water. If you prefer, you can also rinse the glass with a small amount of bourbon before pouring the drink.
- 5
Strain the Cocktail
Using a strainer, pour the chilled mixture from the mixing glass into the prepared Old Fashioned glass.
- 6
Garnish
Take a piece of fresh orange peel and twist it over the drink to release the oils. Optionally, you can run the peel around the rim of the glass before placing it in the drink as a garnish.
