Method

Bread Pudding Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Bread

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Cut the French bread into 1-inch cubes and place them in a large mixing bowl.

  2. 2

    Mix the Custard

In a separate bowl, whisk together the whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.

  3. 3

    Combine Mixtures

Pour the custard mixture over the bread cubes, ensuring all pieces are well soaked. Let it sit for 15 minutes to absorb.

  4. 4

    Bake the Pudding

Transfer the soaked bread mixture into a greased 9x13-inch baking dish. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until set and golden brown on top.

Crème Brûlée Topping Preparation

  1. 5

    Prepare the Cream

In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it's just about to boil. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.

  2. 6

    Add Sugar

Once the pudding is baked and slightly cooled, pour the hot cream mixture evenly over the top of the bread pudding.

  3. 7

    Caramelize the Sugar

Sprinkle granulated sugar evenly over the cream layer. Using a kitchen torch, carefully caramelize the sugar until it’s golden brown and crispy. Alternatively, place under a broiler for a few minutes, watching closely to prevent burning.

  4. 8

    Serve

Allow the crème brûlée topping to cool slightly before slicing and serving the bread pudding warm. Enjoy!
