Cake Ingredients

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).

  2. 2

    Prepare Ramekins

Grease four ramekins (6 oz size) with butter and lightly dust with flour. This will help the cakes to release easily after baking.

Making the Batter

  1. 3

    Melt Chocolate and Butter

In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the unsalted butter and semi-sweet chocolate. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring after each interval, until completely melted and smooth.

  2. 4

    Combine Dry Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, powdered sugar, and salt until well combined.

  3. 5

    Mix Ingredients

Add the melted chocolate mixture to the dry ingredients. Then, add the eggs and vanilla extract. Mix until just combined and the batter is smooth. Do not overmix.

Baking the Cakes

  1. 6

    Fill Ramekins

Divide the batter evenly among the prepared ramekins, filling each about 3/4 full.

  2. 7

    Bake

Place the ramekins on a baking tray and bake in the preheated oven for 12-14 minutes, or until the edges are firm but the center is still soft.

  3. 8

    Cool Slightly

Remove from the oven and let the cakes cool in the ramekins for about 1-2 minutes.

Serving

  1. 9

    Invert and Serve

Carefully invert each ramekin onto a plate and gently tap to release the cake. Serve immediately, optionally topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, and fresh berries.
