For the Fried Pickle Chips

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Pickles

Open the jar of dill pickles and drain the liquid. Pat the pickles dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.

  2. 2

    Set Up Breading Station

In one bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. In a second bowl, whisk together the eggs and buttermilk until well combined. In a third bowl, place the cornmeal.

Breading the Pickles

  1. 3

    Bread the Pickles

Take a pickle slice and dip it into the flour mixture, coating it evenly. Next, dip it into the egg and buttermilk mixture, allowing excess to drip off, and finally coat it with cornmeal. Place the breaded pickle on a plate and repeat with the remaining slices.

Frying

  1. 4

    Heat Oil

In a large, deep skillet or pot, heat the cooking oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test if the oil is ready by dropping a small piece of bread into the oil; if it sizzles and browns, it’s ready.

  2. 5

    Fry the Pickles

Carefully add the breaded pickle chips to the hot oil in batches, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove the fried pickles and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Serving

  1. 6

    Serve

Serve the fried pickle chips warm, with your choice of dipping sauce, such as ranch dressing or spicy mustard.
