Method
Pizza Dough Preparation
- 1
Activate the Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water (about 110°F/43°C) with sugar and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- 2
Mix the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Create a well in the center, and add the frothy yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough begins to form.
- 3
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 4
Let the Dough Rise
Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Tomato Sauce Preparation
- 5
Assembling the Pizza
- 6
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat up.
- 7
Shape the Dough
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and transfer it to a floured surface. Roll it out into a 12-inch circle.
- 8
Add Sauce and Toppings
Transfer the rolled dough onto a pizza peel or baking sheet. Spread an even layer of the prepared tomato sauce over the dough. Add your choice of toppings, distributing them evenly.
- 9
Bake the Pizza
Carefully slide the pizza onto the preheated pizza stone or place the baking sheet in the oven. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the crust is golden and crispy.
- 10
Garnish and Serve
Remove the pizza from the oven, and top with fresh basil leaves if desired. Let it cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
