Method
Fig Sauce Base Preparation
Prepare the Figs
Wash the fresh figs under cold water. Pat them dry with a paper towel, then slice them into quarters.
Cook the Fig Sauce
In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the sliced figs, honey, balsamic vinegar, salt, and black pepper. Stir gently to combine.
Simmer
Allow the mixture to simmer for about 10 minutes until the figs soften and the sauce thickens slightly, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and let cool.
Crust Preparation
Prepare the Puff Pastry
Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a floured surface to fit your baking dish or pan.
Add Egg Wash
Beat the egg in a small bowl. Brush the edges of the puff pastry with the egg wash to help it brown nicely.
Add Everything Bagel Seasoning
Sprinkle the everything bagel seasoning evenly over the puff pastry.
Assembly and Baking
Spread the Fig Sauce
Spread the cooled fig sauce evenly over the puff pastry crust, leaving a small border around the edges.
Add the Toppings
Layer the prosciutto slices evenly over the fig sauce, followed by dollops of ricotta cheese. Finally, scatter the wild arugula on top.
Bake the Dish
Place the assembled dish in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and crispy.
Serve
Remove from the oven and allow to cool for a few minutes before slicing. Serve warm and enjoy your Figgy Piggy!
