Method
Pizza Dough Preparation
- 1
Activate the Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- 2
Mix the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Once the yeast mixture is frothy, add it along with olive oil to the flour mixture. Stir until combined.
- 3
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 4
Let the Dough Rise
Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
Tomato Sauce Preparation
- 5
Prepare the Sauce
In a saucepan over medium heat, combine canned crushed tomatoes, minced garlic, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Assembling the Pizza
- 6
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) for at least 30 minutes.
- 7
Roll Out the Dough
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out to a 12-inch pizza crust on a floured surface.
- 8
Add the Sauce
Spread the prepared tomato sauce evenly over the pizza crust.
- 9
- 10
Drizzle with EVOO
Drizzle extra virgin olive oil over the assembled pizza for added flavor.
- 11
Bake the Pizza
Transfer the pizza to the preheated oven and bake for about 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden and crispy.
- 12
Slice and Serve
Once baked, remove the pizza from the oven, let it cool for a few minutes, slice, and serve hot.
