Gather Ingredients
Collect all the ingredients needed for the grilled cheese: sliced bread, cheddar cheese, American cheese, and butter.

Butter the Bread
Spread 1 tablespoon of butter on one side of two slices of bread, making sure to cover the entire surface evenly.
Cooking

Assemble the Sandwich
Place one slice of bread, buttered side down, onto a preheated skillet. Layer the cheddar and American cheese on top of the bread, then place the second slice of bread on top, buttered side up.

Grill the Sandwich
Cook the sandwich on medium heat for about 3-4 minutes or until the bottom is golden brown. Carefully flip the sandwich using a spatula.

Finish Cooking
Cook the other side for an additional 3-4 minutes until it is also golden brown and the cheese is melted. Remove from skillet and let cool for a minute before slicing.
