Method
Preparing the Fries
- 1
Cutting the Potatoes
Wash and peel the Russet potatoes. Cut them into thin strips to create fries.
- 2
Soaking the Potatoes
Soak the cut fries in cold water for at least 30 minutes to remove excess starch.
- 3
Drying the Fries
Drain the fries and pat them dry with a clean kitchen towel to remove excess moisture.
- 4
- 5
Seasoning the Fries
Once fried, remove the fries from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil. While they are still hot, sprinkle with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder to taste.
Preparing the Toppings
- 6
Cooking the Steak
Season the flank steak with salt and pepper. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add a tablespoon of butter. Cook the steak for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until it reaches your desired level of doneness. Let it rest for a few minutes, then slice thinly.
- 7
Sautéing the Vegetables
In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of butter and sliced onions. Sauté for 2-3 minutes until they begin to soften. Add the sliced mushrooms and Worcestershire sauce, and cook for an additional 5-7 minutes until the mushrooms are tender and onions are translucent.
- 8
Assembling the Cheesesteak Fries
On a large serving platter, layer the crispy fries, followed by the sliced steak. Top with the sautéed onions and mushrooms. Finally, place the slices of white American cheese over the top.
- 9
Melting the Cheese
Place the assembled fries under a broiler for 1-2 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Watch carefully to avoid burning.
