Method

Prepare the Meatballs

  1. 1

    Mix the Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, eggs, minced garlic, chopped parsley, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.

  2. 2

    Form the Meatballs

Using your hands, form the mixture into meatballs about 1.5 inches in diameter. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  3. 3

    Sear the Meatballs

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the meatballs in batches and sear them until browned on all sides, about 5-6 minutes. Remove and set aside.

Prepare the Marinara Sauce

  1. 4

    Sauté the Onions and Garlic

In the same skillet used for the meatballs, add olive oil and heat over medium heat. Add diced onion and minced garlic, and sauté until soft, about 5 minutes.

  2. 5

    Add Tomatoes and Seasonings

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Allow the sauce to simmer for 10 minutes.

  3. 6

    Add the Meatballs

Gently add the seared meatballs to the marinara sauce. Cover and simmer for an additional 20-25 minutes until meatballs are cooked through.

  4. 7

    Finish with Fresh Basil

Stir in chopped fresh basil just before serving.

Serve the Meatballs

  1. 8

    Prepare the Cheese and Rolls

While the meatballs are simmering, slice provolone cheese and prepare the baked rolls.

  2. 9

    Assemble the Meatball Bar

Set up a serving station with meatballs in marinara sauce, sliced provolone, Romano cheese in a shaker, and baked rolls. Allow guests to build their own meatball sandwiches.
