Method

Brownie Layer Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.

  2. 2

    Melt Butter and Mix Sugars

In a medium saucepan, melt 1 cup of unsalted butter over low heat. Remove from heat and stir in 1.5 cups of granulated sugar and 0.5 cups of brown sugar until combined.

  3. 3

    Add Eggs and Vanilla

Add 3 large eggs and 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract to the butter-sugar mixture. Stir until smooth.

  4. 4

    Combine Dry Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together 1 cup of all-purpose flour, 0.5 cups of unsweetened cocoa powder, and 0.5 teaspoons of salt.

  5. 5

    Mix Wet and Dry Ingredients

Gradually stir the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined. Fold in 1 cup of chocolate chips.

  6. 6

    Bake Brownie Layer

Spread the brownie batter evenly in the prepared baking pan. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick comes out mostly clean.

  1. 7

In a large bowl, beat together 0.5 cups of unsalted butter, 0.75 cups of granulated sugar, and 0.75 cups of brown sugar until creamy.

  2. 8

Add 1 large egg and 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract, mixing until fully incorporated.

  3. 9

In another bowl, whisk together 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 0.5 teaspoons of baking soda, and 0.5 teaspoons of salt.

  4. 10

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. Fold in 1.5 cups of chocolate chips.

  5. 11

Once the brownie layer is baked and slightly cooled, spread the cookie dough evenly over the top.

  6. 12

Return the pan to the oven and bake for an additional 25-30 minutes, or until the cookie layer is golden brown.
