Pita Bread Ingredients

Method

Pita Bread Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate the Yeast

In a small bowl, mix warm water (110°F/43°C) with sugar and instant yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix the Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Make a well in the center, and pour in the activated yeast mixture and olive oil. Stir until the dough starts to come together.

  3. 3

    Knead the Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until it's smooth and elastic. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour.

  4. 4

    Let it Rise

Place the kneaded dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

  5. 5

    Preheat the Grill

While the dough is rising, preheat your grill to medium-high heat.

  6. 6

    Divide and Roll the Dough

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and then flatten it into a disc about 1/4 inch thick.

  7. 7

    Grill the Pita

Place the pita rounds on the preheated grill. Grill for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they puff up and have grill marks.

  8. 8

    Serve

Remove the pitas from the grill and let them cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm with your favorite dips or fillings.
