Method
Dough Preparation
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, instant yeast, sugar, and salt.
Add Wet Ingredients
Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and add the warm water and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Let Dough Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Filling Preparation
Mix the Filling
In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, shredded mozzarella, grated parmesan, chopped basil, black pepper, and salt. Stir until well combined.
Calzone Assembly
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C).
Divide Dough
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 4 equal pieces.
Roll Out Dough
On a floured surface, roll out each piece of dough into a circle about 10 inches in diameter.
Add Filling
Spoon a generous amount of filling on one half of each dough circle, leaving a border around the edge.
Fold and Seal
Fold the other half of the dough over the filling and press the edges to seal. You can crimp the edges with a fork for a decorative touch.
Bake
Place the calzones on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
Serving
Serve with Sauce
Let the calzones cool for a few minutes before serving. Serve with pizza sauce on the side for dipping.
