Pasta and Sauce

Method

Cooking Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil the Ziti

In a large pot, bring water to a boil. Add a pinch of salt and the ziti pasta. Cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Making the Sauce

  1. 2

    Prepare the Sauce

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, oregano, basil, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Mixing Cheese

  1. 3

    Prepare the Cheese Mixture

In a mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, and half of the grated Parmesan cheese. Mix well until smooth and creamy.

Assembling the Dish

  1. 4

    Layer the Ingredients

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). In a large baking dish, spread a layer of the sauce on the bottom. Add half of the cooked ziti on top, followed by half of the ricotta mixture, half of the mozzarella, and half of the remaining sauce. Repeat the layers, finishing with the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan on top.

Baking

  1. 5

    Bake the Ziti

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

Serving

  1. 6

    Serve the Dish

Allow the baked ziti to cool for about 10 minutes before serving. Cut into squares and serve warm. Enjoy!
