Method

Burger Patty Preparation

  1. 1

    Mix the Patty Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine ground beef, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until just combined. Do not overwork the meat.

  2. 2

    Shape the Patties

Divide the mixture into two equal portions and shape each into a patty about ¾ inch thick.

Smokey Joe Mix Preparation

  1. 3

    Prepare the Sausage and Vegetables

Slice the smoked sausage into small pieces. Dice the jalapeño pepper (remove seeds for less heat) and onion.

  2. 4

    Cook the Mix

Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the onion and jalapeño, sautéing until the onion is translucent. Add the sausage and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes.

  3. 5

    Add the Barbecue Sauce

Stir in the barbecue sauce and let the mixture simmer for 5 minutes. Remove from heat.

Cooking the Burgers

  1. 6

    Grill the Patties

Preheat a grill or a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired doneness.

  2. 7

    Add Cheese

In the last minute of cooking, place a slice of American cheese on each patty and cover to melt.

Burger Assembly

  1. 8

    Assemble the Burger

On the bottom half of each burger bun, layer a lettuce leaf, then place the cheesy patty on top. Spoon the smokey joe mix over the cheese, followed by tomato slices and pickles. Top with the other half of the bun.
