Method

Baking Directions

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. 3

    Add Wet Ingredients

Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until well combined.

  4. 4

    Incorporate Boiling Water

Carefully stir in the boiling water. The batter will be thin, but this is normal.

  5. 5

    Bake the Cake

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  6. 6

    Cool the Cakes

Remove from the oven and allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

  7. 7

    Prepare Ganache Frosting

For the ganache, heat 1 cup of heavy cream until just boiling. Pour over 2 cups of chopped chocolate and let sit for 5 minutes. Stir until smooth.

  8. 8

    Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate, spread ganache on top, then add the second layer and frost the top and sides with the remaining ganache.

  9. 9

    Serve and Enjoy

Slice the cake and serve. Enjoy your rich chocolate cake with ganache frosting!
