Rice
Turkey Gravy
Method
Preparing the Rice
- 1
Rinse the Rice
In a fine mesh strainer, rinse 1 cup of white rice under cold running water until the water runs clear to remove excess starch.
- 2
Boil the Water
In a medium saucepan, bring 2 cups of water to a boil over high heat. Add 1 teaspoon of salt.
- 3
Cook the Rice
Once the water is boiling, add the rinsed rice. Stir briefly, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 18-20 minutes until the rice is tender and water is absorbed.
- 4
Making the Turkey Gravy
- 5
Gather Ingredients
Collect all the ingredients needed for the turkey gravy: turkey drippings or broth, flour, butter, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt.
- 6
- 7
Create a Roux
Once the butter is melted, add 1 tablespoon of all-purpose flour. Stir continuously for about 2-3 minutes until the mixture is golden brown and bubbly.
- 8
Add the Turkey Drippings
Gradually whisk in 2 cups of turkey drippings (or broth), making sure to break up any lumps. Continue whisking until the mixture is smooth.
- 9
Season the Gravy
Add 1 teaspoon of black pepper, 1 teaspoon of garlic powder, 1 teaspoon of onion powder, and salt to taste. Bring the gravy to a simmer, stirring frequently for about 5-7 minutes until it thickens.
- 10
Serve
Once the gravy has reached your desired thickness, remove it from heat and serve hot over the prepared white rice.
