Pasta

Method

Pasta Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook the Pasta

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add 1 pound of elbow macaroni and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually around 8-10 minutes. Drain and set aside.

Cheese Sauce Preparation

  1. 2

    Make the Roux

In a large saucepan, melt 1 cup of butter over medium heat. Once melted, whisk in 0.5 cups of all-purpose flour until smooth and bubbly, about 2-3 minutes.

  2. 3

    Add Milk

Gradually whisk in 4 cups of milk, continuing to stir until the mixture thickens and starts to bubble, about 5-7 minutes.

  3. 4

    Incorporate Cheeses

Reduce the heat to low and stir in 3 cups of shredded cheddar cheese and 8 oz of softened cream cheese. Stir until melted and smooth.

  4. 5

    Season the Sauce

Add 1 tsp of salt, 0.5 tsp of black pepper, 1 tsp of garlic powder, and 0.5 tsp of mustard powder. Mix well and remove from heat.

Combine & Bake

  1. 6

    Mix Pasta with Sauce

In a large mixing bowl, combine the drained macaroni with the cheese sauce. Stir until the pasta is evenly coated.

  2. 7

    Prepare the Topping

In a small bowl, mix together 1 cup of breadcrumbs, 0.5 cups of grated Parmesan cheese, and 1 tsp of paprika.

  3. 8

    Assemble and Bake

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Pour the macaroni and cheese mixture into a greased 9x13 inch baking dish. Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture evenly over the top. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and crispy.
