Baguette Bread Ingredients
Method
Baguette Bread Directions
- 1
Activate the Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water (about 110°F/43°C) with sugar and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes, until it's frothy.
- 2
Mix the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Pour in the yeast mixture and stir until a shaggy dough forms.
- 3
Knead the Dough
Turn the dough out onto a floured surface. Knead for about 10 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.
- 4
First Rise
Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- 5
Shape the Baguettes
Punch down the risen dough, then divide it into two equal pieces. Shape each piece into a long baguette form.
- 6
Second Rise
Place the shaped baguettes on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover them with a cloth and let rise for another 30-45 minutes.
- 7
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C).
- 8
Score and Bake
Using a sharp knife, make several diagonal slashes on the top of each baguette. Bake in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes, until golden brown.
- 9
Cool and Serve
Remove the baguettes from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack before slicing and serving.
