Fish and Chips Ingredients

Method

Preparation Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Chips

Peel and cut the potatoes into thick fries. Rinse them in cold water and pat dry.

  2. 2

    Fry the Chips

Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C). Fry the potatoes in batches until golden brown, about 5-7 minutes. Drain on paper towels, season with salt, and keep warm.

  3. 3

    Make the Batter

In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and ale until smooth. Let it sit for 10 minutes.

  4. 4

    Prepare the Coleslaw

In a large bowl, combine shredded cabbage and carrot. In a separate bowl, mix mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, and sugar. Pour the dressing over the cabbage mixture and toss to combine.

  5. 5

    Fry the Fish

Dip the cod fillets into the batter, allowing excess to drip off. Carefully place them into the hot oil and fry until golden brown and cooked through, about 4-5 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels.

  6. 6

    Serve

Plate the fish with chips on the side and a generous serving of coleslaw. Drizzle spicy malt vinegar over the fish and chips to taste.
