Mushroom Fries
House Made Ranch Dipping Sauce
Method
Preparing the Mushroom Fries
- 1
Prepare the Mushrooms
Clean the portabella mushrooms with a damp cloth and remove the stems. Slice each mushroom into thick strips (about 1/2 inch wide) and set aside.
- 2
Make the Batter
In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. In another bowl, whisk together the egg and milk until well combined.
- 3
Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients
Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined, creating a thick batter.
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a deep pan or fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 5
Batter the Mushroom Strips
Dip each mushroom strip into the batter, allowing any excess to drip off.
- 6
Fry the Mushroom Strips
Carefully place the battered mushroom strips into the hot oil in batches. Fry until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
Making the Ranch Dipping Sauce
- 7
Combine Ingredients
In a mixing bowl, add the mayonnaise, sour cream, buttermilk, chopped dill, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and lemon juice.
- 8
Mix Well
Whisk all ingredients together until smooth and creamy. Adjust seasoning to taste.
- 9
Chill
Cover the ranch dressing and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow flavors to meld.
