Fried Pickles
House Made Ranch
Method
Prepare the Fried Pickles
- 1
Slice the Pickles
Drain the whole pickles and slice them into spears, about 1/4 inch thick.
- 2
Prepare the Battering Mixture
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, cornmeal, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.
- 3
Mix the Wet Ingredients
In another bowl, whisk together the eggs and buttermilk until well combined.
- 4
Combine Dry and Wet Ingredients
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. The batter should be thick.
- 5
Heat the Oil
In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
- 6
Dip and Fry the Pickles
Dip each pickle spear into the batter, allowing excess to drip off, and carefully place them in the hot oil. Fry in batches for 3-4 minutes or until golden brown.
- 7
Drain the Fried Pickles
Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried pickles and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
Make the House Made Ranch
- 8
Mix the Ranch Ingredients
In a medium bowl, combine the mayonnaise, sour cream, dried dill weed, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and milk. Stir until smooth and well combined.
- 9
Chill the Ranch
Cover the ranch dressing and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
