Method

Burger Patty Preparation

  1. 1

    Form the Patty

In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat. Divide the mixture into two equal portions and shape each portion into a round patty, about 3/4 inch thick.

  2. 2

    Cook the Patty

Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Place the burger patties on the grill or skillet and cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side. Flip the patties and continue cooking for another 4-5 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C) for medium doneness.

Topping Preparation

  1. 3

    Prepare the Vegetables

While the patties are cooking, wash the lettuce and pat dry. Slice the tomato into thick rounds and the red onion into thin slices. Set aside the pickles.

  2. 4

    Melt the Cheese

In the last minute of cooking the burger patties, place a slice of cheese on each patty. Cover the grill or skillet with a lid to help the cheese melt.

Assembly

  1. 5

    Assemble the Burger

Toast the brioche bun lightly on the grill or in a toaster. Place the cooked burger patty with melted cheese on the bottom half of the bun. Layer on the lettuce, tomato, pickles, and red onion. Top with the other half of the bun.
