Method

Meatballs Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F).

  2. 2

    Combine Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, minced garlic, chopped parsley, grated Parmesan cheese, salt, and black pepper.

  3. 3

    Mix Thoroughly

Using your hands or a spoon, mix the ingredients until they are well combined but do not overmix.

  4. 4

    Form Meatballs

Shape the mixture into small meatballs, about 2.5 cm (1 inch) in diameter.

  5. 5

    Bake Meatballs

Place the formed meatballs on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until browned and cooked through.

Marinara Sauce Preparation

  1. 6

    Sauté Onion and Garlic

In a large saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté for about 5 minutes until softened. Then add the minced garlic and sauté for another minute.

  2. 7

    Add Tomatoes and Spices

Stir in the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Bring the sauce to a simmer.

  3. 8

    Simmer Sauce

Let the sauce simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally until it thickens slightly. Adjust seasoning to taste.

  4. 9

    Add Fresh Basil

Stir in the chopped fresh basil just before serving.

Assembly

  1. 10

    Combine Meatballs and Sauce

Once the meatballs are cooked, remove them from the oven and add them to the marinara sauce. Stir gently to coat the meatballs with the sauce.

  2. 11

    Serve

Serve the meatballs hot over spaghetti, on a sub roll, or with crusty bread, garnished with additional parsley or Parmesan cheese if desired.
