Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Calamari

Rinse the calamari under cold water and pat dry with paper towels. If using whole calamari, clean and cut them into rings.

  2. 2

    Set Up Breading Station

In three separate bowls, place the all-purpose flour in the first bowl, beat the eggs in the second bowl, and combine breadcrumbs with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, paprika, and red pepper flakes in the third bowl.

Breading

  1. 3

    Coat Calamari

Dredge each piece of calamari in flour, shaking off any excess. Dip into the beaten eggs, ensuring it's fully coated, then transfer to the breadcrumb mixture, pressing lightly to adhere.

Frying

  1. 4

    Heat Oil

In a deep skillet or heavy pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  2. 5

    Fry Calamari

Carefully add the breaded calamari in small batches to the hot oil, frying for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Avoid overcrowding the pan.

  3. 6

    Drain

Use a slotted spoon to remove the fried calamari from the oil and place on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

Serving

  1. 7

    Serve

Arrange the fried calamari on a serving platter and serve hot with marinara sauce on the side for dipping.
