Method
Bread Pudding Preparation
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Prepare the Bread
Cut the day-old bread into 1-inch cubes and place them in a large mixing bowl.
Mix Wet Ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk together the whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, brown sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
Combine and Soak
Pour the wet mixture over the bread cubes. Gently stir to combine, ensuring the bread is soaked evenly. Let it sit for about 20 minutes to allow the bread to absorb the liquid.
Transfer to Baking Dish
Grease a baking dish (about 9x13 inches) with butter or non-stick spray. Pour the soaked bread mixture into the prepared baking dish.
Bake
Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
Caramel Sauce Preparation
Make the Caramel
In a medium saucepan, combine the granulated sugar and water over medium heat. Stir gently until the sugar dissolves.
Cook the Caramel
Stop stirring and allow the mixture to simmer until it turns a deep amber color, about 10-15 minutes. Watch closely to prevent burning.
Add Cream and Butter
Remove from heat and carefully whisk in the heavy cream, unsalted butter, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. The mixture will bubble up.
Cool the Sauce
Allow the caramel sauce to cool slightly before serving. It will thicken as it cools.
